Why study ancient endgames
Ancient endgames often use fewer pieces, but each move has a clear tactical purpose. Look for checks, pins, sacrifices, blocked escape squares, and king safety instead of only the first available capture.
Calculate without assistance first, then use the engine to test your idea. Saving a failed position and returning to it later is usually more useful than repeatedly guessing moves.
