Xiangqi (Chinese Chess) Record Upload: XQF, CBL, CBR
Turn a Xiangqi record on your computer or phone into a game you can replay online. Sachess supports XQF, CBL and CBR files. Read and preview a file in your browser before deciding whether to save it. Follow the original moves and variations in tournament games, opening studies or annotated endgames without entering the record by hand.

What the record uploader does
- Preserves the starting position, main line, every variation and the original annotations for a complete replay.
- Shows the board and move list in two columns. Click a move to return to its position.
- Lists games in a CBL file with available titles, events, dates, locations and Red/Black player information. Choose one game per import.
- Creates a share link after you sign in and save. Friends can open the saved record without signing in.
How to upload and share a game
- Click “Choose a game-record file” and select an .xqf, .cbl or .cbr file on your device. It is read locally at this stage, without being sent to the server.
- For CBL, review the game list, select one game and confirm the preview. Other supported formats open their preview directly.
- Check the starting position, players, main line, important variations and annotations. Read any parser notes. If you chose the wrong CBL game, return to the list and choose again.
- Sign in and click “Save and create a share link”. Once saved, open the online record and copy its address from your browser to send to a friend.
Supported formats and uses
XQF, CBL and CBR are common Xiangqi game-record formats. Use this page to read older records, organize games you played or share annotated teaching games. It accepts game-record files, not programs such as EXE files or board photographs. To recognize a board photo, use the separate Photo to FEN tool.
Save one selected game from a CBL library
A CBL library can contain many games. The page lists the game information it can read and marks missing fields instead of inventing titles or events. Confirm a selection to preview that game. Saving preserves its starting position, every variation and its annotations; the other games and the full CBL source file are discarded. Keep the original library on your own device.
Read variations and annotations, then analyze when needed
Step through the main line or switch variations at a branch and read the corresponding annotations. The upload page displays the original record without starting engine analysis automatically. To check for mistakes, open blunder checking from the saved record viewer. Treat the author’s original commentary and engine analysis as separate sources.
Things to check before uploading
Use a recent browser and, where possible, an intact record from a trusted source. The browser accepts source files up to 32 MiB; saving also requires server size and chess-rule validation. Keep a local backup and review important variations before sharing. Anyone with the share link can view the record, including people who receive a forwarded link. Avoid putting passwords, contact details or other sensitive information in annotations, and make sure you have permission to share the record.
Game-record upload FAQ
Can I preview without an account?
Yes. Choosing a file and previewing it locally does not require sign-in. You must sign in to save it on the server and create a share link. Selecting a file alone does not upload it.
Can I save an entire CBL library at once?
No. You must select exactly one game each time; the first game is no longer selected by default. The list shows only metadata that can be read from the file. The full library is not retained after saving.
Will variations or long annotations be cut off?
Validated records retain their variations and annotations in full. If a record exceeds the storage limits, saving fails with a message instead of silently truncating its contents.
What happens to an unreadable annotation in an old XQF file?
An annotation that cannot be decoded is skipped, with a parser note. That annotation alone does not cause the whole file to be rejected. Compare important commentary against the original file.
Why might saving fail after a successful preview?
The server verifies the selected game again from the original file when you save. Damaged structures, illegal positions or moves, and size limits can cause rejection. Follow the error message rather than just changing the file extension and retrying.
Does uploading start AI analysis automatically?
No. Uploading and viewing show the board, moves, variations and original annotations. Engine analysis requires you to open the separate blunder-checking feature.
How long will my saved records be kept?
We commit to long-term storage, currently for a minimum of one to five years. You can view your uploads in your account and delete your own records. Keep the original files locally for anything important.
